How to Tune in to Whisperings Solo Piano Radio...

There are many ways to tune in to Whisperings radio, whether you are listening to the free stream or the subscription stream. If you don't want (or are unable) to use the Flash Player on the home page to listen, you can use the play links below or, if you prefer, open the provided stream URLs in directly in your favorite player. Instructions for doing that are below.

The Stream URL's show above will work with most players and devices. However, if you want to tune into Whisperings PureStream with a device like the Roku Soundbridge, Squeezebox, Sonos and so on, you'll need a special customized URL to do that. iTunes

The Free Stream: To tune into the free stream in iTunes, start iTunes, go to your Music Library, then click on the "Radio" link. Click the arrow that lists "Classical" stations. Under that alphabetical list you'll find "Whisperings: Solo Piano Radio." Click on that to tune in.

PureStream: Here's how to manually open PureStream from iTunes:
1) Start up iTunes, go to the Advanced/Open Audio Stream menu. For a keyboard short cut just do COMMAND+U on the Mac or CTRL+U on the PC. That will take you right to the Open Audio Stream prompt in iTunes.
2) When prompted for the stream URL, insert http://onyxweb.streamguys.com/pianosolo.m3u and click on OK. Make sure you don't have any trailing spaces on that URL link.
3) You should then be prompted for your username and password (if you've logged in using iTunes before, iTunes may have cached your login and may not even prompt you. This is especially true if you're on a Mac.) If you are prompted, enter your login and you're in.

From that point on, you should see "Whisperings PureStream: Solo Piano Radio" bookmarked in your main iTunes library. To see this, click on "Library" on the left side of the iTunes screen, and then "Music" under that. In the main window to the right, you'll see your library. Make sure you set your View to "List" mode as it makes it easier to see all your bookmarks. You should see "Whisperings PureStream: Solo Piano Radio" listed there.

If you *don't* see a bookmark for it, go to the File/Add File to Library... menu in iTunes. On the browse dialog box that comes up, insert the stream URL and then click on "Open." The link will show up in your Library as "secure." Once you click on that and log in, the link should be automatically renamed "Whisperings PureStream: Solo Piano Radio"

For iTunes 11: iTunes 11 lists things much differently. To find the bookmark, go to your Music Library by clicking the dropdown in the upper left, then click on Playlists on the menu bar. You'll find Whisperings listed under "Internet Songs."

Windows Media Player

The Free Stream: To listen in Windows Media Player, start up Windows Media Player, then go to the File/Open URL... menu. Insert this URL: http://vistaweb.streamguys.com/pianosolo64k.asx . The stream should start playing. You can save the stream as a playlist if you like, and then the stream will be bookmarked in your Playlist Library. How exactly this is done depends on your version of Windows Media Player, as the process if different in almost every version!

PureStream: Here's how to log in directly from Windows Media Player:
1) Start up Windows Media Player, then to the File/Open URL menu.
2) Insert the following URL: http://onyxweb.streamguys.com/pianosolo.asx . Make sure you don't have any trailing spaces on that URL link.
3) Click on OK and you should be prompted for your login information.
4) WMP may also ask you if you want to "display the embedded content." Say yes, as that's the HTML for the playlist so you can see what's playing. Note that, depending on your version of Windows Media, you may have to resize the "Now Playing" window to see the playlist.

You can save the stream as a playlist if you like, and then the stream will be bookmarked in your Playlist Library. How exactly this is done depends on your version of Windows Media Player, as the process if different in almost every version!

Important Note: If you don't see the "File" menu option, you probably have your menu system hidden in Windows Media Player. To change this, start up Windows Media Player, then press CTRL+M which should display your menu system along the top of the player. Then you can select the "File" menu. Alternatively, just press CTRL+U to open up the window that prompts you for the stream URL. You can just insert it there.

Other Players...

For WinAmp, go to the "File/Play URL" menu, insert the following URL:
http://onyxweb.streamguys.com/pianosolo.m3u
You should then be prompted for your login.

For RealPlayer, go to the "File/Open" menu, insert the following URL:
http://onyxweb.streamguys.com/pianosolo.m3u
You should then be prompted for your login.

iPhone / iPad

To listen to Whisperings on the iPhone or iPad, you need a special iPhone app. We recommend this one, as it was designed specifically for our broadcast. It works very well, whether you're tuning into the free stream or our subscription stream, Whisperings PureStream

Other Devices...

You can tune into Whisperings from a host of other devices, including the Roku Soundbridge, Squeezebox or Sonos. For the free stream, just create a custom stream URL and add one of the URLs listed at the top of this page in your device. In most cases and for most devices, you'll want to use the MP3 stream URL. For Whisperings PureStream, you'll need a special URL that has your login information embedded in it.
